RUE VERTE presents INTERVALS, an exhibition by Belgian artist Karen Verlinden bringing together a selection of ceramic and bronze works.
8 October 2026 – 10 November 2026
Verlinden works with a deliberately reduced vocabulary of geometric forms. Drawing on a background shaped by print and graphic culture, her sculptures translate ideas of grid, repetition and negative space into physical form.
The geometric precision of these forms is balanced by the irregularities of the material and the visible trace of the hand. In the ceramic works, seams remain visible, edges vary and surfaces retain traces of pressure and touch. Rough clay, matte finishes and glazed surfaces give the works a tactile presence. Verlinden’s minimalism is never industrial; the discipline of the form is countered by the evidence of its making.
In bronze, the same formal language takes on a different character. From textured to highly polished surfaces, the works respond differently to light and their surroundings. Alongside ceramic works ranging from matte to glazed, these shifts in surface create a tension between roughness and polish, reflection and absorption, control and irregularity.
INTERVALS takes its title from the spaces and relationships that emerge between the works — between one form and another, between contrasting surfaces, and between geometric order and the trace of the hand. The exhibition is conceived as a spatial composition in which distance, repetition and changing light become active elements.
