Our collection of black ceramics is rooted in an age old tradition from the Latgale region in Latvia. Each piece is handmade from natural clay and fired in wood smoked kilns, where the absence of glaze allows the clay to carbonize. The result is a deep black surface, sometimes touched with silvery hues, that carries the quiet character of its making. Practiced for centuries before glazed ceramics became common, the method imparts a natural depth and timeless character to each piece.
The ceramics are dishwasher safe, though we recommend using a short program. As they are unglazed, they can absorb water during longer cycles, which may prolong drying time. If washed on a long program, please ensure the pieces are completely dry before stacking, so those placed in the middle can also dry properly.
